Village Homestays

Bermudan Landing & The Community Baboon Sanctuary

Bermudan Landing is a Creole village located in the historic Belize River valley. This was the first region of Belize to be colonized by Europeans and their mostly African slaves during Belize's early logging days. By now everyone has intermarried, and they've given up logging in exchange for subsistence farming, small scale cattle ranching, and hunting...but not without leaving a niche for the region's booming howler monkey population.

Villagers have voluntarily agreed not to remove swaths of forest habitat along rivers and along the edges of their privately owned lands. In return, howler monkey researchers flock to the region and wildlife tourism is on the rise, both of which help support the local economy.

Come learn more about howlers and ethnobotany, and discover first hand the beauty of this part of Belizean culture.
