Village Homestays

Gales Point Manatee & The Manatee Wildlife Sanctuary

Gales Point is a Maroon Creole community established by runaway slaves in the early 1600's. The village is located along a peninsula two miles long and about 150 yards wide that juts into an estuary lagoon, home to the largest concentration of manatees in the Western hemisphere.

Come work on projects for the conservation of manatees and sea turtles. Study the role of estuaries in watershed and marine ecology. Experience life in the most traditionally African community in Belize.
